Shahnon Ahmad as the author does not need further introduction in Malay literature. He is not only famous for her novel Ranjau Sepanjang Jalan and Rentong , or as often won prizes of Work of Arts, or because he was an undergraduate at Universiti Sains Malaysia, but because he is a talented writer, seriously and has his own philosophy. He received his early
education was in the Malay schools Sik and graduate degrees  5  in 1946. Then he continued his studies at the Sultan Abdul Hamid College, Alor Setar, to  pass the School Certificate. He became a teacher and taught in Bahasa Inggeris Grammer School,

In 1968, he went to Canberra, Australia, and worked as a research officer at the Australian National University (ANU). He took the opportunity to continue studying at the ANU to obtain a Bachelor in 1971. Upon his return, Shahnon a Lecturer at the Sultan Idris Training College, Tanjong Malim, and not long after that, offered to serve in the Universiti Sains Malaysia as a lecturer in 1974. This is where he obtained a Bachelor of Arts in 1975. Shahnon subsequently became Dean of the School of Humanities since early 1979. Starting in June 1980, was appointed as Professor of Literature Shahnon Universiti Sains Malaysia. In 1982, Shahnon was appointed to full professor at the same university. Shahnon then appointed Director of the Islamic Centre, Universiti Sains.  On 11 September 1993, Shahnon Ahmad was awarded the title Professor Emeritus of Universiti Sains Malaysia.
  
Shahnon began work in mid-1950's, but in the past 10 years, he has emerged as a writer who has great talent. He is a writer who is so sensitive to the important events that occur in and outside the community people
 
Shahnon like the work of some foreign writers, included the works of Pramoedya Ananta Toer and Patrick White. Pram works is preferred because the strength of its language while the work of Patrick White for village life presented.

Ranjau Sepanjang Jalan  and Rentong can be regarded as the culmination of the activities of writing a novel Shahnon Ahmad. Ranjau Sepanjang Jalan  has been translated into English by Adibah Amin  titled No Harvest But a Thorn. Panel The Sydney Morning Herald in 1973 has put this novel as one of the 10 novels that won the hearts of the year 1972. This novel has received overwhelming response from readers and students of society, and literary texts are used to form six years. This novel became a movie in 1983.

Display a farmer living in Banggul Derdap.  Shahnon  Ahmad took his own village setting. On the front page, has written order from the author as a mark of the first memory to the reader - about the characters and the challenges faced in doing so the rice paddy and rice that we eat with pleasure and satisfaction.

Is about the life of peasants or farmers easier since it began clearing the land and clean until the rice field and ready to be cooked. And then the challenge of the show. Black cobra skyline Jena, the thorn nibong Lahuma killed, seven sisters working the fields, leech elephants, drought, floods, tiaks birds the hundreds of pieces attacking fields until the harvest.
